We are proud to announce that our project has been awarded seed funding from HelseCampus Stavanger. This support gives us the opportunity to carry out an exciting collaboration with the healthcare system, exploring how Point-of-Care (POC) testing can improve decision-making in acute situations.
The project aims to investigate how digitalised near-patient testing, particularly Troponin I testing, can strengthen the decision-making basis in cases of suspected acute myocardial infarction. A central part of the project is to collect demographic information about patients discharged within 12–24 hours of admission with suspected myocardial infarction during the period 2022–2024. This provides insight into current practice, including patient flow data, waiting times, treatment pathways and the degree of over-triage.
Furthermore, the project will simulate the use of digitalised POC testing of Troponin I as an additional tool alongside ECG in ambulance services. This simulation will be integrated with patient flow data to illustrate how near-patient testing can contribute to safer and faster decision-making. The project will also assess improvements in coordination across different units in the healthcare system – from pre-hospital units to nursing homes and home care services.
